24 Hour Review!
Andrew Warnest has
just submitted a fantastic review of this years trial,
he has entitled it - A Dry Slice of History
Fantastic Trial! The Results are in.
10th July - This year, riders were affected
by the dry conditions, which can actually be quite harsh and unforgiving,
and can quite easily chew the inside of motors if the rider is not careful and
prepared with extra filters, and apparently its also much harder on the rider
(body) too.
Several history making results
came from this trial and I hope that Andrew Warnest will be able to give you the
story on what these are soon.
In the mean time - The Results:
Firstly! Congratulations to ALL those who completed the Trial, a great effort.
Congratulations to:
Shane Diener as the Winner of the Open Solo class,
Hector Evans and Shaun Harman as the Winner of the Open Sidecar class,
Mark McConnell as the Winner of the Clubman class,
(Mark came all the way from Victoria to compete)
Sean Keller for loosing the least amount of points in the Rally Class.
Check out the results
Here is my chance to say that Riders are still most welcome to send in profiles,
and stories of their ride (they don't have to be long - unless you have lots to
say) and anyone who has good photos of the trial is welcome to send them to us.
I'd also like to thank Andrew Warnest for his great work in submitting articles
and info for this web site, and to Cynthia Richardson who has supplied the rider
draw and results. The event would not happen without the great work of the 24hr
Committee.
Thank you also to all the riders who have submitted profiles so far.
MORE PHOTOS TO COME IN NEXT FEW DAYS (Webmaster)
Fantastic night!
Saturday Morning (only just -
its 00:30 am). It was a real pleasure driving out tonight, caught what
should be the Southern Boundary of the 24hr circuit, near Truro (only guessing -
we will know where it all goes tomorrow) and there was a little bit of drizzle
in Truro. At Neales Flat there is Clear skies, a 2/3rd bright moon (surprisingly
the headlights still cut into the darkness very well tonight), a breeze of about
2km/h occasionally springs up to remind you that it's cold. In reality it's a
beautiful calm Winter night (something rare around this district, noted for its
winds).
Good Luck and
a Safe Ride to all those competing and we hope that all riders, officials,
supporters and spectators have a fantastic 24hr.
See you at the start 11:00am Kapunda Trotting track.

EUDUNDA
ROADHOUSE OPEN FOR THE DURATION
THAT’S RIGHT, THE
EUDUNDA ROADHOUSE NOW HAS NEW OWNERS,
And they are proud to say that they
want to be involved with our great event and as such are going to stay open for
the whole night serving hot and cold food and drinks, as well as fuels. Check
out their add in the programme for all the details. Please support Sarah and her
team at the Eudunda Roadhouse, next year they may be a fuel stop in the event
when it starts at Eudunda and we need to support new people to the event,
especially when they are as keen as Sarah and her crew.

Shane Diener V Leigh Bentley - Here they go again!
Once again it looks
like this years 24 Hour will be a shootout between old combatants Shane and
Leigh. Both have reputably bypassed the Australian 4 Day Enduro Championships
(unfortunately being held on the 24 Hour’s weekend!) to concentrate on this
event, which is great for all of us. Shane will be chasing a record equalling 8th
win*, while Leigh will be all out to stop him, record his first win in
the ‘24’ and rid himself of an unwanted ‘brides maid’ tag. Last year both gave
well over 100% effort, and although the margin between them was less than 1
point, the gap back to 3rd was almost 30 points such was their
domination.
* Look for the
feature story in this years programme on Shane’s attempt to join the legendary
Les Fredericks at the top of the winners list in the ‘24’.
‘Fast’ Fred Weckert – Start Number 30 in 2006
One of the ‘legends’
of the ‘24’, Anthony ‘Fred’ Weckert will have start number 30 this year, again
with Damien Nash alongside in the chair. Fred first rode in 1976 on a solo and
has only missed one ‘24’ in the past 31 years. He is a 2 time winner (1984 &
1989) of the sidecars, with Peter Menzel swinging and played a big part in the
evolution of sidecar design through the early to late ‘80’s. Look for the full
story on Fred in this years programme.
Briefing & Draw Night / Presentation Night
Once again the Vine
Inn Hotel in Nuriootpa will be opening its doors for the ‘24’ for both of our
social nights. We on the Committee are very thankful to the Vine Inn for doing
this for us and ask that all of the competitors and their friends and family
also show their support of this great venue by coming along a bit earlier to sit
down and enjoy a great meal. Meals are available from 6.00pm and it makes the
night a bit more of a social occasion between a bunch of people all wanting to
do the same thing – ride a bike for 24 hours.
The Vine Inn also
deserve our patronage as they do turn away diners in that room just for us.
Briefing / Draw Night in on June 17, with the Presentation Night on August 19 –
lock those dates in!
Ned’s Pics
Ken ‘Ned’ Hurley is
once again in action behind a lens this year. Over the last few years Ned has
turned in better and better photos and there have been some rippers! Just check
out this years programme for any confirmation needed. Ned will once again be out
and about over the ‘24’ weekend looking for the best spots to take great pics.
If you are looking for ‘that one pic’ chances are that Ned will get it for you.
Chase him up, he’s not hard to find – big tall bloke with a scruffy beard and a
camera around his neck – or email him at
ned@kern.com.au (he has a whole section of
photos on the 2005
(link removed)
event here)
